For centuries, construction projects have required closely supervising labor and materials with coordination and an organized approach, which are critical factors for successful project delivery. Today, we refer to these services as construction administration and observation. Wilson & Company’s construction administration and observation team ensures our client’s projects are executed successfully.
What is construction administration?
Construction administration professionals represent clients during the construction phase of a project. These experts oversee and manage projects to ensure they are constructed in conformance with the plans, specifications, and contract documents. Our staff offers various services to assist with every facet of construction requirements. Their certifications span a diverse spectrum of projects, empowering them to confidently tackle any challenge. Our dedicated team includes project managers, engineers, observers, inspectors, sampling and testing technicians, and certified traffic control supervisors. Each member is deeply versed in local, state, and national standards and specifications.
Wilson & Company’s Colorado-based team regularly leads construction administration for iconic projects along Colorado’s front range and is critical to advancing the Rocky Mountain region’s transportation network. A Wilson & Company team is leading construction administration for the Colorado Department of Transportation’s (CDOT) Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Project (MAMSIP) in Colorado Springs.
This $167 million project enhances travel efficiency between key military installations in El Paso County, including Fort Carson, Peterson Space Force Base, Cheyenne Mountain Space Force Station, and Schriever Space Force Base. Additionally, MAMSIP increases safety and improves mobility for these important corridors that serve motorists and commercial freight movement in the region and beyond. These improvements not only facilitate better travel but also contribute to the economic development of the region.
MAMSIP includes many improvements that are funded through local and state agency coordination and include:
-
I-25 Rehabilitation project that spans seven miles, sponsored by CDOT Region 2
- I-25 Bridge replacement over South Academy Boulevard, sponsored by CDOT Region 2 Charter Oak Ranch Road project that is sponsored by El Paso County but managed with Wilson & Company’s construction administration oversight
- Two passing lane projects along SH 94 also sponsored by CDOT Region 2
- South Academy Boulevard widening from four to six lanes, I-25 to Drennan Road, which El Paso County also sponsors
Wilson & Company’s construction administration team works for CDOT as an owner’s representative, lending our technical expertise to manage project resources, schedules, and budgets while ensuring the highest quality of work. With decades of experience in small- to large-scale infrastructure projects, we bring a wealth of knowledge to our construction administration practice to provide the project team and our clients with the consultant services they need to succeed. Our commitment to excellence is unwavering, ensuring the success of individual projects are contributing to the overall infrastructure development of the region.
Addressing Challenges
Construction administration is not without its challenges. However, our team is equipped with the experience and skills to overcome those challenges. Some common challenges include:
- Safety in the field: Balancing continued traffic flow with safe work zones is a priority. We implement stringent safety protocols and work closely with traffic control supervisors to maintain a safe environment for workers and the public.
- Staff availability: Construction projects often require supervision during odd hours, including night work. Our team is flexible and prepared to provide coverage at all times to ensure continuous oversight and quality assurance.
- Meeting diverse stakeholder needs: Ensuring the needs of various stakeholders are met requires effective communication and collaboration. We engage with all parties involved to understand their requirements and address their concerns, fostering a cooperative project environment.
